A new era for European digital identity
Making everyday life easier and more reliable for European citizens and businesses
In association with industry partners, the European Commission and the 27 Member States have drawn up a technical toolbox and regulatory framework for deploying a digital identity by 2025.
This digital identity project represents one of the biggest digital transformations in Europe. It aims to meet security and data protection requirements by offering a wide range of digital services designed to facilitate citizens' daily lives
A large-scale digital transformation project
The European digital identity meets the need for security and data protection, by offering a series of digital services designed to simplify citizens' daily lives. The main elements of the project concern:
- Legal identity: defined by member states to ensure uniform legal recognition.
- Digital identity wallet: available to all EU citizens, residents and businesses.
- Identification uses: used for identification in the public and private sectors, and for the activation of digital credentials valid throughout Europe.
- eIDAS trust services: an extension to electronic archiving, electronic registers, remote electronic signature management and seal creation systems.
- Interoperability: this means moving from identification schemes that are difficult to interoperate with to schemes that are standardized on a European scale.
- The common toolbox: standards, high levels of security and respect for privacy.
IN Groupe's commitment
IN Groupe works in close collaboration with the European institutions and the various French government departments involved in the development of European digital identity. This support includes advising on technical aspects, selecting appropriate technologies, and ensuring interoperability with existing digital identification and authentication systems.
As a member of the Consortium Potential, IN Groupe is actively involved in developing and deploying the European digital identity, in particular by supporting the Agence National des Titres Sécurisés (ANTS).
The project involves 20 countries, each represented by their national ministries, and 148 partners, including public institutions, private companies and technology experts. IN Groupe plays a leading role among these partners, contributing its expertise in digital security and identity management.
The 6 European Wallet use cases
IN Groupe has played a key role in the development of six use cases for the deployment of the European wallet. These use cases define the different situations and practical applications for which the wallet will be used:
- Identification and authentication: access to government services and online procedures.
- Opening a bank account: prior identification required.
- SIM card registration: combined with identity verification.
- Driver's license: integrated into the digital wallet to prove rights or access third-party services.
- Qualified electronic signature: provided remotely.
- Access to health data: securing and sharing health information.
Technical expertise and innovation
IN Groupe provides advice on technical architecture, technological choices, and interoperability with digital identification and authentication systems.
