New motorboat license introduced at the Grand Pavois boat show in La Rochelle
October 2024
The 2024 boat license, officially presented on October 3 at the Grand Pavois boat show in La Rochelle, marks a turning point in the motorboat sector. The new format is designed to meet several key challenges: modernization, safety, and practicality. Initially, in paper format, the license will now be issued as a bankcard-style polycarbonate card, offering greater durability and a much higher level of security.
Official presentation at the Grand Pavois in La Rochelle
The new license was launched at the Grand Pavois 2024 in La Rochelle (17), a key event in the nautical world. Fabrice Loher, the French Minister for the Sea and Fisheries, unveiled this modernized license, emphasizing the importance of safety and innovation in this project, which will also help to improve the relationship between the State and its users by simplifying procedures.
Yann Haguet, Deputy Managing Director of IN Groupe, and Pierre Warnez, Director for the Physical Credentials business line, were present alongside the DGAMPA (Direction Générale des Affaires Maritimes, de la Pêche et de l'Aquaculture) and France Titres - ANTS (Agence Nationale des Titres Sécurisés) to launch this new motorboat license.
Motorboat licenses: a necessary change
This new license offers a significant improvement in readability compared to the old paper format while being more practical and secure. Its credit card-style design makes it easier to carry, more resilient to harsh maritime conditions, and, therefore, more durable.

An innovative, modern, and secure digital format
The modernization of the boating license, combining the advantages of physical and digital technologies, was carried out in partnership with IN Groupe, who has been managing the printing and personalization of licenses since 2007. Thanks to this collaboration, the Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs, Fisheries and Aquaculture (DGAMPA) and the National Agency for Secure Documents (ANTS) has launched the next-generation license.
With more than 100,000 motorboat licenses issued annually, France is committed to modernizing all its official licenses. As the Minister for the Sea and Fisheries emphasized, this transformation is essential to strengthen the trust between maritime authorities and sea users. It is important to note that all existing boating licenses continue to be valid, with no mandate for renewal or expiration.
